In Olivia Wilde's "Don't Worry Darling Lookmovie," Alice appears to be residing in a wonderland. the glowing It's like entering a dream while you're in utopia. The Victory Project, a highly classified mission where the community's "men" commute each day in identical-looking cars for the "creation of revolutionary materials," includes the luxury colony of lined-up homes in a desert setting.

After saying goodbye to them, the women of the house took care of the needs of the household by cooking, cleaning, and preparing their bodies for a relaxing evening with a glass of scotch and their bodies after a long day at work. Frank, who is so adored by Jack, Alice's husband, and the other men of Victory, who oversee the entire business, that it practically has the effect of creating a cult, runs everything. Making the housewives study ballet, which is more about rhythm and regularity than anything else, his devoted wife Shelley, who is a rock, further strengthens his philosophy of avoiding "chaos" and accepting "control."

There is only one restriction: No woman shall attempt to advance the Victory Project past its initial development stage. If they ever make the slightest attempt to inquire as to what is going on in the headquarters, it is definitely forbidden. Additionally, there is some secrecy regarding the actual work that the men undertake during the course of the day; the ladies are instructed not to inquire because Frank and his affiliates are allegedly changing the course of the world. Control, however, has its limits and soon the road to chaos begins to deteriorate.

Margaret, a close friend of Alice's and one of the wives, begins to behave differently. She makes a sketchy appearance at one of the many gatherings that Frank plans and inquires as to what they are all genuinely doing in Victory. The soul of Don't Worry Darling, though, is Florence Pugh. You feel that she will never reach her full potential or discover her voice because of the warmth and wit she exudes while playing the delicate good wife.

Pugh, however, takes care to ensure that her lateral change into a woman who can speak for herself is credible. There is one particular scene involving her character and Frank that makes watching a tonne of bad, vintage-style drama worthwhile. However, the supporting cast could have included some intriguing character twists, particularly from Olivia Wilde and Gemma Chan, who played the stereotypical role of Frank's "perfect wife."

The writing, however, doesn't care to root them sufficiently to make their turnabout in the last act appear genuine. Pine is in excellent form, but as the film progresses, his hazy, cult-like preaching becomes increasingly tiresome. I don't think anyone on the set was aware that "his words" might have had a more significant impact on the film than it does at this point.

In terms of the topics Don't Worry Darling is attempting to tackle, co-writer Katie Silberman finds it difficult to fully embrace the feminist vs. patriarchy viewpoint that the script is aiming for. Absent a few exciting scenes, she plays this as a rather straightforward old-school psychological thriller that is more concerned with solving the riddle than developing a more significant topic from the concept it sets up.
