The Internet has brought us endless benefits, among which is being able to access thousands of entertainment content anytime, anywhere, and porn is not far behind, but did you know that it is the content that most exposes your cybersecurity? And if you watch porn at work it could affect the entire company.

Men and women from Mexico claim to watch porn at work

According to a study carried out by Kaspersky Lab in conjunction with the market research consultancy Corpa , 19% of Latin American men admit that they have seen porn (adult content) on their work computer.

According to this survey, those who watch porn the most at work are Peruvians (26%), followed closely by Brazilians (24%) and Mexicans and Argentines in third place (19%) . On the other hand, those who least claim to watch porn in the office are Chileans (14%) and Colombians (12%).

But not only do men watch porn at work, since according to this research, Colombian women are the ones who most look at photos and videos of a sexual nature in the office (13%), secondly, Peruvian women (10%) and Mexicans and Brazilians in third place (9%), while the girls who least watch porn at work are Argentines (7%) and Chileans (4%).

Protect yourself! These are the 4 main cyber threats that we will have to face in 2019

Watching porn at work puts cybersecurity of your entire company at risk

But beware! It could not only affect your job performance, since according to a study published by Kaspersky Lab earlier this year, more than 17% of Mexican users infected with mobile malware in 2017 suffered attacks related to pornographic themes .

This study also revealed that banking Trojans disguised as porn video players rank second among the most widespread types of pornography-driven malware, followed by root-access malware and ransomware.

The latter, in most cases, uses scareware tactics , which is a malicious program on the computer that locks the screen and displays a message indicating that illegal content has been detected and, therefore, the device has been blocked, for which will only be possible to unblock it paying a ransom.

Connecting to public WiFi without security is another great threat

The survey that is part of the “ Digital Hangover ” campaign promoted by the security company to raise awareness of the risks that Internet users are exposed to when browsing without caution, indicates that in addition to watching porn at work, men are the ones who They buy online while they are in the office , mainly young people between 25 and 34 years old, while those who least carry out this activity at work are women between 18 and 24 years old.

But another risky activity that Mexicans carry out is using the work laptop on a public WiFi network (30%), and only 8% said they connect to a virtual private network (VPN) while leaving the office.

Dimitry Bestuzhev , director of the research and analysis team for Kaspersky Lab Latin America said in his press release that "The rigorous practices of some collaborators can cause serious harm to companies, since they increase the risk of leaks of confidential corporate data" .

In this way, it is not only important to avoid watching porn at work, or even avoid suspicious apps , but devices throughout the organization must always be protected.
