Some of our recommendations
Whether they are filled with feathers or fibre, duvets are
exceptionally versatile garments that can accompany you throughout the year.
They are designed to be used together with a microfibre duvet cover, and you will
certainly appreciate them precisely because you can frequently change patterns
and colours. Among all the features and technical specifications of each item,
you are trying to figure out how to choose the one that best suits your needs.
Here is the guide to help you choose the ideal bed duvet!
How to choose the duvet?
The first necessary distinction to make is related to the
type of padding. Feather duvets are made with padding of animal origin and can
be duck feather, goose feather or mixed origin. The percentage of down-feathers
is the main element when choosing a striped duvet cover. In addition to determining the
warmth, it is also indicative of the quality of the specific product. Secondly,
it is the case of evaluating the weight.
If you don't like the idea of feathers, you can opt for
synthetic models with hypoallergenic polyester fibre or microfiber padding. In
this case, the raw material used is the same, and what differentiates the two types
of fabric is the quality. The polyester fibre is carded, i.e. it is used in
rolls. At the same time, the microfibre is free, similar to flakes, and
therefore can give an excellent softness and volume effect.
It should also be emphasized that only cotton fabric is used
as a cover for feather duvets, while synthetic models can be covered in cotton
and microfiber.
Characteristics of feather duvets
The best duvets are those made from 100% feathers. The cost
is not low, but you will have a high-quality garment that will last you for decades.
A plain double duvet cover with these characteristics suitable for winter can vary from
€400 up to €800 depending on the origin of the feather. If you need to buy a
light one suitable for seasonal changes, the reference budget is between €250
and €400.
This option is not chosen by everyone precisely because it
is not cheap, but if you have already tried a duvet of this type, you will know
very well that it is impossible to be disappointed. Winter feather duvets have padding that can
vary from 200 g/ m² to 300 g/ m² and, in addition to the weight, the
composition is essential to determine the amount of heat.
If you are looking for a spring feather duvet, we advise you
to stay between 80 and 100 g/m²: the warmth will be suitable for the mild
season and will not make you sweat excessively. If you still don't know the
Quattro Stagioni model, there is a good chance that it will become your
favourite. It is made up of a light duvet and an intermediate duvet, both of
which have a press stud which allows them to be used individually or in
combination. They're perfect if you want to buy just one product that's good
for the whole year: you'll have the freedom to decide which weight to use every
night without risking waking up during the night due to being too hot.
Synthetic duvets: the alternative to down
Synthetic duvets are made with the same materials selected
for quilts. In addition to having much lower costs, they have the advantage of
having more practical and quick maintenance. A synthetic duvet for winter can
vary from 250 g/ m², suitable for very heated environments or not very cold
winters, up to 350 g/ m², perfect for those who know they are more prone to
suffer from the cold. If you want a more breathable garment, opt for cotton
linings; microfibre, on the other hand, allows for particular customizations
such as, for example, the possibility of giving a fragrance to the product. You
can find the Aroma Therapy line in which Aloe Vera gives a fresh and slightly
fruity scent and hydrates your skin.
SOME OF OUR RECOMMENDATIONS
If you can count on a limited budget when purchasing a
duvet, the advice is to opt for a synthetic model since buying a duvet with a
low percentage of feathers will not allow you to have a quality product. There
is a very substantial risk that duvets that have less than 50% of the most
valuable part will make you regret having made this choice: you will have to
deal with an annoying noise when you turn around, and you will most likely feel
the pressure of the little bones of the feather. On the contrary, if you can
buy a quality down garment, you must consider that it can last you for several
decades, so seize it!
