BIM overview

BIM (Building Information Modeling), the full name of a building information model, refers to a “visual” digital building model based on the most advanced 3D digital design and engineering software, for designers, architects, plumbing engineers, developers and even Staff in various links, such as property maintenance, provides a platform for scientific collaboration "modeling and analysis" to help them use digital 3D models to design, create, operate and manage projects. Its ultimate goal is to enable the entire project to efficiently set resource plans, control capital risks, save energy, save costs, reduce pollution and increase efficiency in all phases of design, construction and use to achieve the true meaning of engineering. For full lifecycle management, BIM technology implementation can provide a wealth of baseline data needed to build a project and aid responsiveness and decision-making accuracy in building project management.

Second, understanding the BIM concept

The definition of BIM in the US National BIM Standard “BIM is a digital model of a construction project with physical and functional characteristics, and it is a reliable common information resource for making any decisions throughout the entire life cycle, from the initial conceptual design. construction project. "

A prerequisite for BIM implementation is that different project stakeholders, at each stage of the construction project life cycle, insert, extract, update and modify information during the BIM modeling process to support and reflect the responsibilities of each participant. BIM is a shared digital model based on open source, standardized collaboration.

The BIM concept is broken down into two aspects: BIM is not only the result of the model (product ), but also the process (process).

(1 ) BIM as a result of the model (product)

As a result, the BIM model is fundamentally different from the traditional 3D architectural model and has both physical and functional characteristics. Among them, the physical characteristics of the Physical Characteristic ) may be understood as a geometric feature ( Geometric Characteristic ), and functional characterization ( Functional Characteristic ) means that the model has all the information related to the construction project.

BIM as a process (process)

BIM is a process whose function is to improve the design management of various systems in a building (for example, for electrical design consultants, the construction and operation of a project or combined facility by developing, using and communicating digital information models of construction projects.

BIM usually has the following characteristics:

(1 ) Completeness of model information

In addition to describing 3D geometric information and topological relationships of engineering objects, it also includes complete descriptions of engineering information such as object names, structure types, building materials, specifications, and other design information; construction procedures, schedules, costs, quality. as well as labor and equipment; Construction information such as material resources; maintenance information such as safety specifications and material durability; engineering logical relationships between objects, etc.

(2 ) Relevance of model information

Objects in the information model are identifiable and interrelated. The system can perform statistics and analysis of model information, and generate corresponding graphics and documents. If an object in the model changes, all associated objects will be updated accordingly to maintain the integrity and reliability of the model.

(3 ) Consistency of model information

Model information is consistent across different stages of the building life cycle, the same information does not need to be re-entered, and the information model can automatically evolve. Model objects can be easily modified and extended at different stages without re-creation, avoiding the error of conflicting information.
