Following are some workarounds you can try to resolve the ‘QuickBooks not opening after Windows update’ issue:

Workaround 1 – Restore to a Previous Build (Version) of Windows 10

1. Several consumers claimed that QuickBooks Not Opening after Windows Update to an earlier version, they were able to open QuickBooks without any issues. Any applications or drivers that were downloaded after an upgrade that may have prevented QB from opening will be deleted as a result.
2. The steps below can be used to roll back Windows 10 to a previous version:
3. Click "Settings" from the Windows Start menu. Click "Update & Security" on the "Settings" screen.
4. Go back to an earlier build by selecting the "Go back to an earlier build" option under the "Recovery" tab in the left pane. Follow the instructions in the window after clicking the "Get Started" button.
5. Reinstall QuickBooks after rolling back Windows 10 to a previous release to see if that fixes the issue.

The Downside of this Method
  • This isn't a long-term remedy; it's just a band-aid. Additionally, you won't be able to use the apps that were released with the most recent Windows 10 upgrade. After downgrading to Windows 8.1, for example, you won't be able to use Windows Mail or other apps.

    Workaround 2 – Troubleshoot Compatibility

      1. Type QuickBooks into the Windows search box. Once you've located QuickBooks, right-click it and choose "Open File Location" from the menu that appears. 2. Choose the QB file by selecting it with the right click, then select "Properties." 3. Select Windows OS (8.1/8/7) from the "Run the programme in the compatibility mode for" drop-down box on the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties dialogue box. 4. Apply your selection, then click OK.

    Workaround 3 – Block QuickBooks Access to the Internet

    1. You might be able to start QuickBooks without any problems if you add a firewall rule to prevent the QuickBooks executable file (QBW32.EXE) from connecting to the Internet. Follow these steps to do so:

    2. Open Control Panel on the computer where you are experiencing the "QuickBooks not opening" problem, and then click Windows Firewall.

    Select 'Advanced Settings' from the left navigation pane on the Windows Firewall interface.

    1. Click Outbound Rules when the "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" window appears.Then select "New Rule" from the "Actions" pane on the right.
    2. Click "Outbound Rules" when the "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" window displays.

    Check the "This Program Path" radio button in the "Program" window, and then type the following path into the "Program Path" box.

    1. Install QuickBooks 2010 on 64-bit
    2. Windows by going to C:Program Files (x86)
    3. IntuitQuickBooks 2010QBW32.EXE.
    4. For installations of 32-bit Windows:
