Can taking a selfie get you your dream job?

If you’re a regular reader you’ll know that quite a while ago I wrote a post titled Are you screwing up your chances with selfies?  I haven’t made a dramatic U-turn, I still believe you can screw up your chances with too many self obsessed selfies or selfies of the wrong kind. Too many selfies can have a negative effect on your job search, you could get labelled as a narcissist and there aren’t too many employers who want to employ someone who is completely self obsessed.

However like anything, when you start thinking cleverly about how you could use the selfie phenomonum to actually land yourself a job, the ideas just keep coming!

Strategically use the selfie phenomenon to get yourself noticed by an employer and get your dream job. That’s what you call a smart selfie!

Visualisation selfie

Ask any sports star or super duper entrepreneur and they’ll all say, they visulised it, they visualised winning, they visualised the speedboat, the house and the swimming pool! So if they can, why not you? You too can visualise, you can visualise getting your dream job. They say pictures always help with visualisation and you’re recommended to create a vision board. Where is it you’d like to work? Get into the habit of taking a selfie everyday in all weathers outside your dream company and pin them to your vision board, this could be a board on Pinterest. If you’re a whizz with social media create a campaign around the selfies and get your followers to share them, you’ll definitely get plenty of attention!

Professional selfie

You need some professional photos, perhaps for a few online profiles but having a professional photographer take them can be expensive and takes up too much time. Instead of a professional photographer you can get a selfie stick for less than ten pounds and take great professional shots and no one need ever know you done them all by yourself.

Client selfie

You’ve thoroughly researched your dream company and you know who their ideal potential clients are. Your mission is get a selfie with as many of these clients and then include them into a presentation, which you’ll forward them the link to. The presentation would be something like this ...Target clients over the next six months, show the list and then go onto the next part ...”I can introduce you to them” and then hit them with the selfies! Bingo! Who wouldn’t be impressed with that.

Application selfie

There are now jobs which ask you to apply by selfie and not just in the creative field either. Humberside police force recently asked job seekers to apply for a £117,000 per year post with a selfie. If the Humberside police force are embracing technology and including selfies with their application process it wont be long before other companies and organisations follow suit.

One tip though would be not to do the duck face pout for any selfies where you have employment in mind.
