Jobhop Jobhop's blog : 4 Ways Periscope Can Help You Attract Candidates
If you’ve still not heard of Periscope then “wakey wakey”, launched by Twitter the new live video streaming app is a game changer.
If you’re someone who likes to video now’s your chance to be a live video broadcaster straight from your mobile!
It’s currently being used in some very strange ways, don’t be surprised if you tune into a stream where someone is chatting about what’s in their fridge! But like any new toy, people like to play first, then the big “mature” ideas start to happen.
First of all if you’ve not checked out Periscope you better do that first.
Start your periscope experience by looking for your Twitter connections, it’s always nice to walk into a room and have peace of mind because you already know some of the people there. Once connections old and new are made, watch a few of the live streams and get a feel for what Periscope is about. Below the live streams you get the chance to watch replays of any you missed. One of the great things about watching a live stream is getting to see how interactive they are, the audience can ask questions and answer questions via a chat box as well as giving “hearts” to a good broadcaster, hearts are like “likes” on Facebook.
Now you’ve had a play, how can your company use Periscope to attract candidates?
Employee chats
Use Periscope to chat with different employees, interview style. Ask them questions like:
“What’s a normal day like at XX company?”
“What’s your favourite part of the job?”
“How did you come to work at XX company?”
“What tip would you give to someone who would like to do what you do?”
The best questions will come from your audience, they will ask the questions that you’ve probably not thought to ask.
Anyone looking to work at your company would tune in regularly to get tips, advice and get to know the team.
Free-form
Use Periscope to broadcast real projects or challenges within the company and let your candidate community get involved with solutions. Doing something like this regularly will get serious candidates excited, engaged and committed. The innovative ones that keep coming back to engaging and offer solutions should be the ones you take to another level, perhaps then move it to a skype call.
Be Random
Sometimes the more random you are, the more love your company gets.
Meet our postman. Katie makes a smoothie. What’s in our fridge. There’s a spider in our office.
Think about it in real life, sometimes random things happen, they’re usually the things that gel people together, these random things get shared and get laughed about.
If a company tries to be controlling and selective all the time they get found out, people are not silly they know when it’s not real.
Recruitment Process
Broadcast the recruitment process, let potential candidates know how to apply, what you’re looking for, how long the interview is, what questions get asked, and how soon after the interview will they be notified. This gives potential candidates the chance to ask questions and get to know the recruiter a bit better, this is great help for the more nervous candidates.
Things like “this is the reception where you’ll first be greeted by Jamie” then let Jamie say hi to everyone watching, when people come for their interview they'll feel like they've already met Jamie.
Tell them about the coffee! “We have a great coffee machine, make sure you try the con panna when you're here” this is good for putting people at ease.
Being transparent with your recruitment process will make it easier for your company to recruit good talent.
What are you waiting for? Go and be a “scoper” get Periscope-ing!
