Isabella Morgan's blog : How Does the TikTok Algorithm Work?

Isabella Morgan's blog

Before moving on to TikTok’s algorithm and how it works, we should mention that TikTok is famous for holding its page algorithm secret.

Unlike Instagram, which openly explains the feed work, TikTok does not confirm how the algorithm works.

But based on analysis about the TikTok app, we gathered some precious insights toward how the TikTok algorithm defines what a page does for your users.

Here are our five most important courses on the TikTok algorithm:

#1: TikTok algorithm considers multiple metrics

So, what metrics does the TikTok algorithm consider when deciding which videos to embed for you on most pages? The score of completed videos, posts, comments, and likes seem to be powerful indicators of the TikTok algorithm.  So it is very likely that if your TikTok video is really interesting or informative, it is likely to spread well to the public.

#2: The exposure depends on the effect of each video

Even if you have few subscribers, your TikTok videos can be viewed millions of times.  This is because TikTok's algorithm calculates the interaction with each video, not the whole of your personal data.  When your video is published, it will serve you a small number of TikTok users in the popular videos on your page. Therefore, when you scroll the "Recommended for You" page, you will often see videos that few people like.  If your video is well received by users who initially received it on your "For You" page, it may reach a larger user base, and then more, and so on.  Even if you only have a few subscribers on TikTok, your video can still be successful!

#3: Use trending tags and sound help

Tags and sounds (that is, the music you use in TikTok videos) are the two best ways to increase content visibility.  For example, TikTok videos with trending hashtags in the title will appear on their respective discovery pages, and may even expand to more pages.  There are no specific guidelines on which hashtags will have the greatest impact, but I believe #fyp, #foryou, and #foryoupage will increase your chances of getting more For You channels.  In addition to those high-traffic hashtags, it is always a good idea to add hashtags related to your content. This helps the TikTok algorithm understand what your content is about and who might be interested in it.  Similarly, the use of popular sounds really helps to increase the visibility of the content.  TikTok users can choose a tone to watch all related videos, and the Tiktok application is more likely to give priority to popular tones.

#4: The video may suddenly become viral or even older.

We noticed that one of the most interesting things about the TikTok algorithm is that the life cycle of the video is much longer than that of other platforms such as Instagram.  TikTok's algorithm will continuously monitor the performance of all your videos, even the oldest ones.  Therefore, if one of your videos suddenly becomes popular (for example, the voice or hashtag you use suddenly becomes popular), even if it has been broadcast on your channel for 2 weeks, it can still become popular. Almost no likes. As your videos are shared with new user groups through the For You page,  videos seem to be all the rage on TikTok.

#5: First exposure based on geographic location

In 6 different locations, we found that when TikTok videos are first streamed, they are usually first shown to other users in the same geographic location.  Because of this, small businesses have great potential to benefit from participating in TikTok and truly build local brand awareness.  If TikTok video received a good initial response to its geographic location, it is likely to gain international features on For Your Pages.  In just a few hours, you can receive new comments from TikTok users around the world!
