Australian George Kambosos defeated Teofimo López Jr. on Saturday night for a split decision win at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden in New York. Kambosos won with scores of 115-111, 115-112 and 113-114.
Lopez, who had beaten top “pound-for-pound” Vasily Lomanchenko last year, had a short reign after falling into a fight that had been rescheduled multiple times.
Kambosos dropped Lopez Jr. in the first round, though he, too, tested the canvas in the 10th round, to win the split decision.
