Rishu Agarwal's blog : What is the right design process to follow?

Rishu Agarwal's blog

The Graphic Design Process means a series of steps that must be followed by a graphic designer until the final designs are created. In this process, there are multiple stages that a designer goes through before the final representation and delivery of the project, and each step is comparatively smaller and easier to handle.

When we plan and ideate every step, we proceed and move one step forward toward the completion of the design. Every graphic we see in our daily lives goes through a series of steps which was once an idea and a concept until it was fully created and delivered.

Importance of Design Process

Creating beautiful designs needs more than just an effort and talent of a graphic designer. A designer is required to have clarity and a problem-solving approach while creating them. A design process is a strategic approach followed by the graphic design team that further provides them with a clear goal for their design. It provides us the guidelines so that the goals of the designers are in synchronization with the goals and objectives of the brand and meet the user’s needs.

Stages of the Design Process

Every designer must follow the six stages of the design process while creating the designs so that the final designs created meet the needs of the client and the target audience. The stages include-
1) Brief

2) Research

3) Sketching

4) Concept Presentation

5) Revisions

6) Final Presentation and Delivery

These are the main stages that we learn during training in graphic design courses in Delhi.

Stage 1: Brief

Brief is a crucial stage where designers come to know about the project and what the client actually wants them to create. This is the first and foremost stage where an interview is conducted with the client where the designer gets to understand what is actually required in the project.

Stage 2: Research

Research is the second stage in the design process where the designer conducts thorough research on the project based on the information given by the client. In this stage, the designer needs to find out detailed information on the project for which they also take references from past projects designed by the industry leaders.

Stage 3: Sketching

The third stage in the design process is Sketching where the designer begins sketching based on the information provided by the client and gathered from research. With sketching, the designer gets a direction to work on and gradually they understand what is required in the project.

Step 4: Concept Presentation

Concept Presentation is the fourth stage where the designer shows the work to the client. The sketches are presented to the client and the client gives critiques on the sketches based on the final goals of the project. The client informs the designer regarding the elements that must be kept in designs and the elements to be removed.

Stage 5: Revisions

This is the second last stage where the designer has made the required changes requested by the client. After modifying the designs, the client picks up and selects the final one. This is actually the last stage of designing. Any further modifications are also informed to the designer.

Stage 6: Final Presentation and Delivery

This is the last and final stage where the designs are finally delivered to the client. There might be a few stages of revision and concept presentation before this stage until the designs are created according to the need of the user and the client.

These are a series of steps in the design process that makes every designer a professional and successful designer. This process helps the designer to have clarity and plan each stage so that the designs are smoothly delivered to the client.
