Liposuction is the most sought-after cosmetic surgery procedure, ranking just behind breast augmentation. It's a significant operation that helps you get rid of stubborn fat in certain places. In order to permanently eliminate fat cells, your surgeon will sculpt and contour the affected areas.

There are mainly two types of liposuction recovery: quick and slow. Whether or not you can return to work right away after liposuction depends on the treatment area(s) and the method(s) employed. It may take 5–7 days before you feel up to going back to work, and another 4–6 weeks before you're ready to engage in strenuous physical activity again. The typical duration of long-term liposuction recovery is three months. Consequently, swelling can be reduced.

Different stages of liposuction recovery

Immediately after the operation: After liposuction, your doctor will prescribe a compression garment to help tighten the treated regions. They utilize an anesthetic solution throughout the surgery, so you won't feel any pain at first.

A short time after surgery: Within a few hours after the anesthesia wears off, mild to severe pain typically sets in. Liposuction can cause varying degrees of discomfort, depending on the treatment region. The doctor wants you to stay the night so he or she can monitor you for fluid shifts and dehydration.

Approximately 3–5 days after surgery: The doctor will examine the incisions made for the cannula and remove the dressings at your follow-up appointment.

Beyond the initial seven days: The doctor would recommend a light massage to the affected area once a week after the first treatment to help drain any excess fluid and return the skin to a smoother state. Also, the swelling should gradually go down over the next few weeks.
