Jobhop Jobhop's blog : Will Farnell from Farnell Clarke Accountants Chats About Company Culture
Within the last couple of days, I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing Will Farnell from Farnell Clarke Accountants online and going offline to visit the company to see for myself the in-house pub that has got everyone talking!
That’s right, an accountancy firm has it’s own pub called The Tax and Pounds, a great name isn’t it, but not only that all the employees wear jeans to work! You would never think that an accountant would own a pair of jeans, but these accountants do, they even play pool in their jeans in the company pub! You can see why I had to go along to see for myself and I was so glad I did, it was refreshing to be in the company of such forward thinking accountants.
During the Skype interview, Will explained that 70% of Farnell Clarke Accountants are millennials and the company culture is very much what millennials look for.
Farnell Clarke is relaxed, and the work attire is casual, but it doesn’t mean less will be accomplished, in fact, Farnell Clarke employees are more productive. Will puts it down to employees being happy and that has a double whammy, he says when the employees are happy it means the clients are happy too.
Since the first employee back in 2009 the Farnell Clarke family has grown into a rather large team of 33 with possible room for more as the company continues to grow.
Will hopes that going forward the company will naturally attract great people, he says all good candidates would always be considered, and Farnell Clarke would never risk losing someone with great potential. Farnell Clarke has been attracting and will continue to attract young, energetic, outgoing candidates; it’s the same with its clients, they tend to also be millennials. Clients are typically a start up within the tech, creative industries, it makes sense that these clients would want to work with accountants who understand them. Understanding the millennial generation well Farnell Clarke have been looking at 6 hour days, as well as even more flexible ways of working. Research shows us that individual employees have optimum productivity times during the day and Farnell Clarke have been investigating how they could measure employees working non-traditional hours and how that would work with their clients.
Whatever time employees started their work they would always feel uplifted and energised because of the great colours around the building, the themed rooms, one of the rooms makes you feel like you’re on the beach, and the gorgeous flowers, which aren’t real but you’d never know it to look at them!
Watch the video and then get in touch with Will, I’m sure he’d love to have a pint with you at The Tax and Pounds!
