Jobhop Jobhop's blog : What Jobs Will Be Available On Mars?
Just to clarify this post is about getting a job on Mars the planet not at Mars the chocolate bar office, ok you already knew that!
Currently, there’s so much talk about Mars, it’s a sure case that humans will be living on Mars soon, if Elon Musk and Nasa have their way it will be by the year 2030.
There are many reasons why we’ll be setting up home on Mars, some of them include:
- Earth is running out of space
- Humans like to explore
- We want the human race to survive, and we’d have a better chance of that if humans populated two planets
- Nasa wants you there!
You can read more about why humans should live on Mars here, but for this post, we will concentrate on what jobs will be available.
Until Mars becomes a place which resembles Earth, jobs available will be very specialised with the focus on getting colonies up and running. Barista’s and tree surgeons won’t be needed for a long time, for one Mars hasn’t got any trees yet!
What jobs will need filling on Mars?
Vertical Farmers to grow food crops in ways that could only be practical in an alien environment.
Facilitators to make sure everyone is working on the mission.
Programmers will be in huge demand if colonisation of Mars is to work.
Space Doctors to keep everyone fit and healthy during the journey as well as the landing on Mars.
Teachers required for teaching future Martians about the earth.
Engineers will be required to engineer the future for humans.
One thing that must happen is for schools to teach students for future jobs, not yesterday's jobs.
If you do fancy a job on Mars, remember it’s a one-way ticket, there’s no easy job hop back to earth if you don’t like it!
If you're considering a career within the space sector, on Earth as well as Mars then the National Space Academy can signpost you to training and career opportunities.
JOIN Jobhop and spread the word.
