What is visual marketing? Let’s look at it this way – Who has the time to read anymore?

Everyone wants to grasp new things as quickly as possible. That's why posting a simple picture instead of long text is a good idea.

If visual components which accompany a text are captivating enough, there is a better chance that your message will be transmitted.

Visuals make a brand. Even when that brand is you.

Make a visual marketing portfolio, and land a job in that niche in no time.

What programs should I use for photo editing?

You do not need to be a Photoshop expert to specialise in that area. Of course, basic knowledge of Illustrator and Photoshop is always welcome. However, there are online platforms such as Canva which make graphic design super-easy.

Apart from making pictures suitable for all social media, Canva excels particularly in making infographics. Therefore, if you need to represent data and want to make it more interesting, this piece of software will help you a lot.

Also, check out Ripl, which is an app that specialises in making animated posts for social media.

Is video also a part of visual marketing?

Of course. We are unaware that we make visuals on a daily basis, just by picking up our phones and taking Boomerang selfies. Some people have the natural feel for shooting photos and videos; others can learn that easily.

This means that you can use that skill via social media and showcase your abilities by posting great photos and videos.

There are certain things that are always more popular when it comes to taking photos and videos – animals, food & fashion. These are the three categories that are the most popular on Instagram.

However, other niches can also be popular, and if you manage to gain followers in your niche, you will need to improve your video taking skills as well. Companies need successful social media bloggers in order to implement their influencer marketing strategies, and you can become an influencer!

What social media are the best for visual marketing?

Facebook is the universal social medium, but there are others which specialise in the sharing of visuals.

Instagram is the best for ordinary pictures, everyday life and topics such as fashion, pets, cuisine, etc.

Snapchat allows only "story“ type of posting and posts are in the form of a short video or a picture.

Pinterest is the best when it comes to lifestyle images. People (80% women) daily share thousands of images on this social medium.

WeHeartIt is a young user base, who like to share fashion pics, food pics as well as inspirational pictures.

Tumblr also has a young user base; this platform is very visual,  many of the blogs contain more pictures than text which is unusual for blog posts.

Choose carefully which of the mentioned media is the best for your visual representation. Then, choose which form of presentation you are the best – infographics, logos, photography, video or even something else?

There are many ways to learn each of these skills; workshops can be found online and in many cases for free.
