Jobhop Jobhop's blog : Get A Job Using Twitter Tweet Chats

Many people aren’t aware of the tweet chats happening all the time on Twitter. If you’re one of these people and you don’t know what a Twitter tweet chat is let me fill you in first.

A Tweet chat is an organised live event held on Twitter at a regular time every week, set around a particular topic or location i.e #londonhour #norfolkhour #Manchesterhour #cambshour OR #prophour #sbs #bizhour #bloghour

They usually last for an hour and will have a host leading the chat. Depending on how big the chat is there could be moderators on the chat who keep the flow going. The chat always has a specific hashtag which allows everyone to follow the chat as long as everyone involved uses the hashtag in their tweets.

Now, how can Twitter tweet chats help you get a job?

Local area tweet chats

Where ever you live in the U.K there will be a local tweet chat near you, as well as the ones already mentioned there’s:

#Yorkshirehour #Devonhour #chelmsfordhour #essexhour #hampshirehour #westmidhour #cornwallhour and many, many more

If you want to know your local chat email jobhop@jobhop.co.uk  & state your area.

Once you know your local area and you’re certain you want to work in your local area, then each week, at the same time, you show up on Twitter. That means you tune into the Twitter tweet chat and get to know everyone else who regularly turns up every week. Picture this: Every week you go along to a fun place in town where many local businesses go, you chat and just get to know them all. Before long you’re all great friends and they’re introducing you to people they know who have amazing career opportunities which you’re interested in. This is exactly what you’re doing on a Twitter tweet chat, you’re networking, you’re building relationships and these relationships will help you.

Once people have got to know you on the chat and you’ve got to know them, you can let them know what you’re looking for and ask them to help.

Ways your new twitter tweet chat friends can help you could be:

  • Introduce you to their connections who may be able to help
  • RT your latest blog post
  • RT your online CV
  • Join you on a periscope
  • Direct recruiters to your Jobhop profile
  • Put you into their talent community

Now let’s say you live in Birmingham but you want to re-locate and work in London, what should you do?  You’d get involved in #Londonhour to build up your connections and discover job opportunities in London.

Industry tweet chats

Is your passion property? If it is then you’d be best to check out the tweet chat #prophour and mingle with estate agents across the U.K.

Perhaps you’ve got your heart set on being a solicitor, if so you’d best be on Twitter every weekday at 1pm for #Legalhour and get networking with other solicitors. There’s even a whole hour dedicated to horses #equinehour for those who want to be grooms, equine dentists, horse feed specialists or tack retailers. Whatever profession you want to break into there’ll be a tweet chat for it.

So get your tweet chats in your diary and set your reminder!
