Jobhop Jobhop's blog : An Interview With Dawson Whitfield Founder of Logojoy
Here at Jobhop we get to interview some great people and today's interview is with Dawson Whitfield, the founder of Logojoy
Where did the idea for Logojoy come from?
I’ve been a designer for 12 years, and the idea for Logojoy came to me last year when I was helping a client design a logo. The client had so many changes going back and forth that I felt like I'd become a glorified font picker instead of a designer. After this experience, the question that came to my mind was -- how can I automate design, but in an effective and premium way? From that point on, I worked to build an online logo maker and launched it in November 2016.
What’s the culture like at Logojoy?
I like to describe the culture as creative, hard-working, and outside-the-box. I wanted to create a culture with a great startup feel, and a place where everyone can become the best version of themselves through their work. It’s a very supportive atmosphere where everyone is not only “in it to win it,” but they also really want to work together and grow together.
Do you use social media to recruit?
Yes, it’s one of our favourite tools for recruiting because it can be used for so many things, from branding to reaching an audience we wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. It’s been effective in our hiring because the type of people we look for are actively engaged in communities on Facebook, Twitter, GitHub, and LinkedIn. Many startups and tech groups on social have been good to us, not only putting up job postings but also helping us interact with interested individuals and share things about our company beyond the posting. As a group, we also work together to spread the word about our current opportunities on social.
What types of jobs do you think you’ll be hiring for in the future?
We're hiring mostly Front End Developers with a focus on React. We're also looking for artificial intelligence researchers and developers. Here’s a list of Logojoy’s job openings.
Please tell us about the office mascot Calvin -- who is he?
Calvin is my eight-month-old Australian Shepherd puppy. He comes into our office a couple of times a week and brings joy to all our team members as an amazing furry stress reliever. We’re a dog-friendly office, so he also has many other dog friends at Logojoy.
