Jobhop Jobhop's blog : 10 Things to Do When You Finish Your Exams
It’s finally over.
The ink has dried on that last exam paper, the coursework has been frantically submitted 30 seconds before deadline and you can finally leave school/college/university and see the sun again. Freedom beckons – but what to do with it?
Even if you only have a couple of weeks before you have to hop back on the cycle of lectures and hangovers, there is still time for several essential activities.
Trip to the beach
As the UK is
an island, it means we’re surrounded by beaches. In fact, you cannot be more
than 70 miles from the sea at any point in Britain. Therefore, grab someone
who’s got a car and head down to the beach. The great thing is that you’re able
to do this mid-week so will have the beach more or less to yourselves and no
little kids running about.
Go to a festival
The festival
season is about to get going and they make a perfect excuse to get away for a
few days with your mates. If your budget doesn’t stretch to one of the big
festivals, why not go to a much cheaper local festival? If the weather is good
and the beers are flowing, the quality of music won’t be that important anyway.
Go on holiday
Many of you
will be jetting off to some of Europe’s finest party destinations for sun, sand
and clubbing. Even if you haven’t got one planned, you can still get some mates
together and do a last minute thing. If not, some places in Britain are also a
good idea for a long weekend getaway.
Play TV/films catch-up
There must be
a million TV shows or films that you haven’t caught up with yet because of all
the revision you’ve been doing. Now you can binge watch them ALL. Even those
marathon 24-episode US TV series. It doesn’t matter!
Celebrate!
This one is a
no-brainer – what better way to say goodbye to weeks of seriousness and study
than with a lil’ celebration? Get your friends together and go out for a few
drinks or throw a party!
Get some work experience
Work
experience is the perfect thing to do in the summer holidays. It can give you a
taste of some work you’ve never tried before but might really enjoy. It can
also help you brush up on your employability skills and will build up your CV
to impress future employers.
Volunteer
Volunteering
is such a fun and rewarding thing to do. It can really help your personal
development by building your skills and self-confidence. You could make new
friends or see a side of life that you’ve never seen before. From helping
children and homeless people to helping nature and wildlife, there is no end to
the amazing impact that you could have on the world during your summer
holidays.
Pursue your hobbies
The pressure
of exams often pushes your hobbies to the backburner. So this is the time of
year when you get to give wings to your passion, be it photography, blogging,
writing stories gardening or mastering a fitness class.
Look or prepare for your summer job or internship
Hopefully
you’ve already scored a summer job or internship. If you have, take the time
after exams to plan how you will stand out and be an asset to the company. If
you haven’t, there is still time! Do some research, and find a way to earn
money and gain professional experience.
Plan for next term
Get next term organised right now! I
know, this can sound like the most boring out of them all, but if you want to
make something out of your studies. It’s important to be prepared. Use your
time to go through your curriculum, look for the books you’ll need and prepare
for what the next term will bring you.
We hope this
list has given you some epic ideas on how to celebrate your exams coming to an
end. It could be one of the best times of your life, so make sure whatever
you’re doing, you do it in style.
However you celebrate the end of exams we hope you have fun!
